Colorado College Holdings:
Early U.S. Government Documents, 1789-1909

Most of the publications we have for this period of time are congressional documents. Search for topics in the following indexes.

Be sure to take note of the exact:

  • TITLE
  • and DEPARTMENT e.g., Agriculture, Forest Service,
  • or type of CONGRESSIONAL DOCUMENT with
    • CONGRESS, SESSION, and SERIAL SET NUMBER
    • e.g., House Executive Document, 57th Congress, 1st Session, 5102), AND CALL NUMBER (if departmental document

Most of these documents are located in the Documents Enclosed Area. Please ask at the reference desk for help in locating documents.

CIS US Serial Set Index, 1789-1897. Paper. (Docs Indexes)

Arranged in four time periods, 3 volumes each, by broad subject headings.
Use the first two subject volumes in each group to look for your topic.
Each citation includes the Serial Set volume number:

Issued in parts, each part contains a subject index to the executive departments contained in that part.

Use the subject index to search for your topic in the most likely departments.
At the end of each entry you will find a Reference Bibliography number (e.g., T104a-41.14).
Look up this number in the Reference Bibliography that is in the last volume of the part you are using.
There you will find the SuDoc call number for the item you want.
